What this variant means
This registry groups this wording with OPENAI *CHATGPT SUBSCR; check the identity evidence before treating it as the same merchant.
OPENAI *CHATGPT SUBSCR reads like an OpenAI charge for a ChatGPT subscription, since it combines OpenAI's name with its ChatGPT product. OpenAI's help pages explain how to check ChatGPT subscription and API credit purchase charges, but the pages we read do not document this exact statement text. Check the invoices on the Billing page of each ChatGPT account you might use, and any Apple or Google Play subscriptions, before treating the charge as unknown.
Check the account that may have been billed
OpenAI's article on unrecognized charges asks you to check the invoices on your billing page first to confirm whether the charge matches a recent subscription or API credit purchase. It also notes that some charges are not fraudulent and may have been made by a family member or someone else who had access to the card.
OpenAI's cancellation article says to look at your purchase receipt to see which platform billed you, because a subscription bought on chatgpt.com does not appear in Apple or Google Play subscriptions. If you see more than one charge, it suggests checking for subscriptions under different ChatGPT, Apple or Google accounts.

Charges after canceling
According to OpenAI, canceling stops future renewals but does not automatically refund previous charges, and you should cancel at least 24 hours before the next billing date to avoid the next charge. If you canceled less than 24 hours before that date, the next charge may already have been processed. After an ordinary cancellation, paid features stay available until the end of the current billing period.
Uninstalling the ChatGPT app does not cancel a subscription. Deleting a ChatGPT account cancels a subscription billed directly by ChatGPT but not an Apple App Store subscription, so cancel through Apple or Google Play first if that is where you subscribed.
Can OpenAI cancel a subscription if I lost access to the account email?
For subscriptions billed directly by ChatGPT, OpenAI says Support may help if you give the account or billing email plus two billing details, such as the card's last four digits or the date of the most recent charge. Never send the full card number.

Refunds and contacting OpenAI
OpenAI says refund eligibility depends on the purchase and your location. For subscriptions bought on chatgpt.com or through Google Play, request a refund through OpenAI Support while signed in to the account associated with the charge; for Apple App Store purchases, request it from Apple. OpenAI Support is reached through the chat bubble at the bottom right of help.openai.com, where a virtual assistant answers first.

If you did not authorize it
OpenAI says its team can investigate an unrecognized ChatGPT or API credit purchase charge and review refund eligibility, that unauthorized charges must be validated before a refund is issued, and that fraudulent activity can be reported through its Fraudulent Activity webform. It recommends contacting your bank immediately if you believe a charge is unauthorized.
If you have already opened a payment dispute, OpenAI asks you to tell Support its status; it says it cannot issue a separate refund while a dispute is active or after the bank has returned the funds. The CFPB similarly advises contacting your bank or card provider immediately about a suspected unauthorized charge.
