You can use this site without signing up or linking a bank account. Tool files and inputs are processed in your browser. If you contact us by email, we receive the information you choose to send; avoid including full card numbers, credentials or unredacted statements.

Tool privacy

Tool inputs, filenames, statement text, account details, draft letters and exports are processed in your browser. Our tools do not upload your files and do not send what you type to us or to any analytics service. The site uses no tracking pixels or session recording scripts.

Analytics cookies (optional)

On your first visit we ask whether you accept analytics cookies. Google Analytics only loads if you choose Accept; if you choose Decline, or make no choice, no analytics script loads and nothing is sent to Google Analytics.

If you accept, Google Analytics sets first-party cookies (named _ga and _ga_*, kept for up to two years) and receives the page address without its query string or fragment, the referring site, your device and browser type, and approximate location derived from your IP address. We turn off Google signals and ad personalization, and we never send search text, statement lines, amounts or tool inputs. We use these reports to see which pages and tools help visitors.

Your choice is saved in this browser's local storage for up to 12 months. Change it any time with Cookie settings, also linked in the footer. Choosing Decline after accepting deletes the analytics cookies this site set. Google's handling of this data is described in How Google uses information from sites that use its services.

You do not need to provide a name, email address or bank login to use the tools. A local match is a candidate to check against your records; it does not connect to your bank or verify that you authorized a payment.

Search and file processing

Descriptor searches and selected CSV, PDF and receipt text are processed locally. Tool-to-search links carry text in a browser fragment, which is removed when the page opens. Older query-string links can reach hosting logs on the initial request; avoid sharing statement text in URLs. Closing a page clears temporary tool state unless you explicitly save it.

Local storage

The subscription tracker, recurring charge auditor and saved snapshots in the Statement Review Workspace use your browser's local storage. Saved tool information stays on that browser. Theme, ChargeBot visibility and your analytics cookie choice are also saved locally. Clear the relevant tool or your browser's site data to remove saved entries.

Anyone using the same browser profile may be able to see saved tool data. Exporting a file or opening an email draft gives you a copy to handle yourself; those actions do not submit information to UnknownCharges.

Cloudflare Web Analytics

Our host, Cloudflare, adds its Cloudflare Web Analytics script to every page, separately from the analytics cookie choice above. It sets no cookies and does not use local storage. It reports page views (page address and referring site), browser, operating system and device type, country, and page-speed measurements, which help us find slow pages. It does not receive search text, statement lines or tool inputs. See Cloudflare Web Analytics and Cloudflare's privacy policy.

Hosting and fonts

Our hosting provider receives normal website requests and may process IP addresses and request logs to deliver and protect the site. Font files are served by this website; loading them does not contact Google Fonts. These website requests are separate from the local processing of statement files and tool inputs.

Advertising

The site is intended to be supported by Google AdSense. No advertising script is currently included. If advertising is activated, this policy and the consent choices will be updated before it is enabled.
