What this variant means

This registry groups this wording with SPK*SPOKEO SEARCH; check the identity evidence before treating it as the same merchant.

SPK*SPOKEO SEARCH is one of the descriptors Spokeo, the people-search site, says may appear on a bank or credit card statement, depending on the type of subscription bought. Spokeo's payment policy says membership plans renew automatically and that an uncancelled trial converts to an ongoing subscription. Start by searching your email for a Spokeo receipt or trial confirmation and checking the Manage Your Account section of any Spokeo account you or a household member opened.

What Spokeo says will appear on your statement

Spokeo's consumer FAQ lists four descriptors that may show up on a bank or credit card statement based on the subscription type chosen at purchase: SPK*SPOKEO, SPK*SPOKEO SEARCH, SPK*INFOARMOR and SPK*SPOKEO ENTPRS. A line reading SPK*SPOKEO SEARCH therefore points to a Spokeo purchase rather than an unrelated merchant. The FAQ describes Spokeo as a people search service that lets users search by name, phone number, address, email or username.

The amount shown in the example on this page is only an illustration. Spokeo's pages reviewed here do not publish a fixed monthly price, so compare the charge with the plan terms in your own receipt or sign-up email.

Why a charge can appear after a single search

Spokeo's payment policy says trial terms are disclosed before purchase and that a trial left uncancelled after it expires converts to an ongoing subscription under that offer's terms. To avoid conversion, Spokeo says a cancellation must be received before 11:59 PM PT on the last day of the trial.

The same policy says membership plans are prepaid for the stated period (monthly, quarterly, semi-annually or annually) and that, unless the plan details say otherwise, Spokeo renews the plan for the same period and charges the card or PayPal account at the start of each period. A renewal months after a one-time lookup is consistent with that policy, but only your receipt shows which plan was chosen.

How to cancel and ask about a refund

Spokeo's FAQ says you can cancel from your Account page: go to the Manage Your Account section and click the cancel button. If there is no cancel button, use the contact form link in that section, choose "I would like to terminate my membership" and select "Terminate now." Spokeo says the membership will then not auto-renew and a confirmation email is sent to the address on file. If you paid through PayPal, the FAQ describes cancelling the automatic billing from PayPal's preapproved payments settings.

On refunds, Spokeo's payment policy, last updated December 15, 2020, says membership plans are non-refundable and that processed payments are not refunded or prorated for partial months, with access continuing to the end of the paid period. Its consumer FAQ separately encourages unsatisfied customers to contact Customer Care to request a refund.

For questions about membership charges, Spokeo's FAQ points to the Contact page. The payment policy lists Customer Care at 1-888-271-9562 for cancelling a trial and says the department is available 7 days a week, excluding Spokeo-observed holidays.

Does cancelling refund the charge I already paid?

Not automatically. Spokeo's payment policy says processed payments are not refunded or prorated, though its FAQ invites unhappy customers to ask Customer Care for a refund.

Read Spokeo's consumer FAQ and payment policy plus the CFPB card-reporting page; Spokeo's help center (help.spokeo.com) returned a bot check and was not used. Identity is documented by Spokeo's own descriptor list. Removed the homepage-only source, boilerplate fraudRisk, invented 48 to 72 hour refundWindow, generic cancelSteps (rewritten from the FAQ), the unsourced $0.95 trial and $25 monthly price claims, the 'refunds frequently granted' and 'banks handle routinely' assertions, and the empty dispute section. Set viaPhone false; the Customer Care number appears only in the 2020 policy and is cited in body text.
