Resumen del cargo
This charge is from the PRESTO fare collection system used across public transit agencies in the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area (GTHA) and Ottawa.
Why am I seeing PRESTO *CUBIC on my statement?
A charge labeled "PRESTO *CUBIC" or "PRESTO FARE" appears when you use a credit card, debit card, or mobile wallet (like Apple Pay or Google Pay) to tap and pay for a transit fare on systems like the TTC, GO Transit, UP Express, or OC Transpo.
The word "CUBIC" refers to Cubic Transportation Systems, the technology contractor that builds and manages the payment processing infrastructure for Metrolinx and the PRESTO system.
These charges also appear when you reload a physical PRESTO card online, through the PRESTO app, or at a station ticketing machine.
Pre-authorizations and bundled charges
If you see a pending charge for a very small amount (like $0.10 or $1.00), this is a temporary pre-authorization hold the PRESTO system uses to verify your credit card is valid when you tap. This hold usually drops off and is replaced by the actual fare amount.
Additionally, PRESTO sometimes bundles multiple taps across a single day into one combined charge, meaning the total on your bank statement might reflect several bus or train rides.
How to fix double charges and card clash
- If you tapped your entire wallet on a PRESTO reader, the sensitive antennas may have read your credit card instead of your PRESTO card, causing you to pay twice. Always take the card you want to pay with out of your wallet.
- To dispute an incorrect charge or a failed transfer, you can call PRESTO Customer Service at 1-877-378-6123.
- Provide them with the date, time, and the first 6 / last 4 digits of the card charged to locate the exact tap in their system.
