What is the Vultr charge?
A charge for 'VULTR' is for cloud computing and web hosting services, such as virtual private servers (VPS) or cloud storage.
Vultr caters primarily to developers and businesses hosting websites or applications.
Hourly Billing and Forgotten Servers
Vultr bills continuously by the hour. If you spin up a server for a test project, you will be billed indefinitely as long as the server exists in your account.
IMPORTANT: Simply turning off or 'stopping' the server does not stop the billing. You must fully 'Destroy' the instance in the Vultr dashboard to stop being charged.
- Step 1 Log into the Vultr Customer Portal (console.vultr.com) and check the Billing tab to view your invoices.
- Step 2 If you are certain you have never used Vultr and are not a web developer, contact your bank immediately to report the unauthorized charge.
Why is there a temporary $1 or $2.50 charge?
When you link a new credit card, Vultr places a temporary authorization hold to verify the card is real. It is not an actual charge and will drop off in a few days.
Dispute Rights & Fraud Prevention
If you suspect this charge is fraudulent or billing in error, you have strict federal rights protecting your account.
Always review your statement carefully and take action within 60 days.
What should I do if I don't recognize this charge?
First, check with family members or anyone authorized on your account. If the charge remains unrecognized, contact your bank immediately to report it. Under the Fair Credit Billing Act (FCBA), you have 60 days from the statement date to dispute unauthorized credit card charges.
How long does it take for a disputed charge to be removed?
Once you file a dispute, your bank must acknowledge it within 30 days and resolve it within two billing cycles (not exceeding 90 days). During this time, the disputed amount is usually placed on a provisional hold, meaning you do not have to pay it.
