What is the TX TAG charge?
A 'TX TAG' charge is a payment for electronic tolls incurred on Texas highways and toll roads.
As of late 2024, the Harris County Toll Road Authority (HCTRA) took over the processing of TxTag accounts from the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT).
Replenishments and SMS Scams
If you have a TxTag, EZ TAG, or TollTag on your windshield, your bank account is automatically charged to replenish your prepaid balance when it runs low.
WARNING: SMS 'smishing' scams are heavily targeting Texas drivers. If you receive a text about an 'outstanding toll balance' with a link, do NOT click it. It is a scam.

- Step 2 If you do not own a car or have not driven in Texas, contact your bank immediately to dispute the charge as fraudulent.
