Kurzantwort
This is a temporary pre-authorization hold from a QuikTrip (QT) gas station. It is placed when you swipe your card at the pump to verify your account balance and will drop off once the final fuel amount clears.
Why QT places a hold on your card
Whenever you pay at a QuikTrip pump, the card reader communicates with your bank before dispensing fuel. The system authorizes a hold (frequently up to $175 depending on current fuel limits) to ensure your account has enough to cover the purchase.
This hold is not an actual charge. QuikTrip only collects the amount you actually pumped. The remainder of the hold is released by your bank, but it can sometimes take a few business days for the bank's system to update your available balance.
Steps to resolve or avoid QT holds
If you are concerned about a pending QT charge that seems too high, it is simply the authorization hold. You do not need to dispute it unless it actually posts to your statement.
- Monitor your pending transactions Wait for the transaction to shift from 'Pending' to 'Posted.' When it posts, it will reflect the exact amount of gas you bought.
- Contact your bank for delayed holds If the hold remains after 3 to 5 business days, contact your bank. QuikTrip cannot release the hold; only your financial institution can do that.
- Prepay inside the store To prevent holds entirely, go inside QT and pay a specific cash or card amount directly to the cashier.
